    Powerline communication-
    front-end for multimedia

As demand for faster, more reliable home broadband grows, our customer set out to build a networking IC capable of delivering high-speed connectivity over any wired medium — coaxial cable, powerline, or twisted pair.

Achieving this required a high-performance analog front end for broadband applications that could meet the requirements of emerging standards like HomePNA 3.1 and HD-PLC — all while maintaining low noise, high linearity, and a compact analog front end IC footprint.

Cyient Semiconductors stepped in to develop the custom AFE that would power it all.

Bringing the solution to life

Cyient Semiconductors partnered closely with MegaChips to design a production-grade analog front end for broadband applications, tailored for high-speed wired connectivity across diverse media types.

Key design features:
  • High-resolution ADC-DAC chain for signal fidelity
  • Low-noise programmable gain amplifier to maintain dynamic range
  • Fractional-N synthesizer for fast, flexible frequency control
  • <3 nV/√Hz noise floor and wide filter bandwidths
  • No external calibration or tuning components needed
The result is a compact analog front end IC that meets stringent performance and compliance requirements, ready for global deployment in consumer networking products.

Where it’s used today

The AFE is the core of MegaChips’ KHN11121 home networking IC, enabling broadband speeds over any wired infrastructure.

By supporting multiple standards and media types in one compact solution, this compact analog front end IC simplified home networking installations, reduced hardware complexity, and ensured compliance with protocols like HomePNA 3.1.
